Windows 7 upgrade question

HP Recommended
I understand that HP is providing a free upgrade to Windows 7 starting with computers purchased in late June.  While I realize that mine does not qualify for this (I bought it in January), is there an option out there to purchase the upgrade?  I have looked, but I see nothing indicating whether or not this is possible.

You can most certainly purchase the upgrade when Windows 7 is released on October 22! The upgrades are starting at $49.99

One other question that I just thought about:  Where do actually obtain the upgrade from?  Would I purchase it from HP or would I have to go through Microsoft?  I asked Microsoft the same question and they said "Sure, you can purchase it.  It is $219.99 USD."  I naturally said no deal, so that is what raised this question.  I'd love to have Windows 7, but I won't pay $220 for it.  I don't want it that much.

Then just use the RC till it expires sometime in March. By then, the prices would've come down.
