HP Envy 15 x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hey all,

My laptop, an HP Envy 15 x360 Beats edition, has been having some issues with sleeping and hibernating. THe issue is that whenever I close the lid or put my laptop to sleep, the laptop sometimes shuts down / loses power in the midst of it, causing me to boot it up again as if it lost power. Same issue with hibernate.

When the loss of power happens, I can hear my hard drive suddenly turn off.

I suspect it may be because of a Windows Update, but I cannot be certain.

Any and all advice would be appreciated!

@DMG101

Welcome to HP Support Forum. Normally when sleep or hibernate laptops/notebooks still need power. Only when totally switching off, laptops/notebooks won't use batteries (draining batteries when off is another story).  You can save battery a bit by switching off wireless card during sleep.

Regards.

I believe you misinterpreted my situation.

My laptop suddenly shuts down / loses power in the PROCESS of going to sleep or hibernate. There is still power in the battery, evident when I power it back on without need of charging. When I put my laptop to sleep or on hibernate, WHILE it is going to sleep / hibernate, the system shuts off like it's just been hard shutdown.

I have the exact same issue, on a HP Elitebook 1030 g3:

while going to sleep or possible during sleeep (not sure) the computer looses power. The next time I turn it on everything it boots, and every of program and document is closed (obviusly). Frustrating.

Doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to be very annoying.

I have tried to see if it has anything to do with hibernation, wifi on/off or other things that I control, but nothing makes difference. The problems seem to be related to hardware. The PC is up-to-date with all HP drivers by HP Support Assistant.

Yeah, I've tried multiple things, such as digging through my settings and using System Restore. The problem with the latter is that Microsoft made updates mandatory, so I can't tell if it's an update causing this.

But yeah, it's getting VERY frustrating that this even occurs; it really hinders productivity.
