HP Pavilion Notebook PC Model no: 15-bc200nx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

My laptop’s charger fried the mother board, so I recently gave it to be fixed and bought a new charger. It was working fine for the first week, and suddenly my laptop stopped charging while turned on. the orange light that says it’s charging comes on for about a few seconds, then it immediately turns to white, which usually means it’s fully charged, and it stops charging, irrespective of how much juice there is left.

it only charges when it’s turned off. And when I switch on the laptop on charge, apart from not charging it also makes some weird sounds for a while. Please help me out with this problem.

I understand your concerns.

I would suggest you uninstall the  ACPI drivers and update the BIOS.

@MadihaSh Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the HP Pavilion not charging when switched on.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Please perform the adapter test and Battery test.

1. Power off the PC and make sure that it is completely powered off.

2. Press the power button and the moment you press the power button immediately start tapping F2 key, you should see the system diagnostics screen.

3. Look for the component test, under that all the hardware will be listed, please choose Battery /Adapter and initiate the quick test.

Note: If it fails it will generate a 24 digits alphanumeric failure id, please capture that.

If the test is passed, please perform the below steps.

Steps to uninstall the ACPI drivers

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Batteries>then select the s drivers and right-click on it and uninstall all battery drivers.

Then restart the computer and check again.

Hello, thank you for your help. I did the battery check and it was successful. However the adapter check had a warning - is this because the laptop could simply not detect it or is it the adapter that is at fault?

My question is, should I go ahead with uninstalling the ACPI drivers ? Or is the adapter at fault here? It was new and working fine, charges the laptop when it’s turned off. 4C4E5DFA-C93E-4EEA-B5F1-38F3018E6143.jpeg

I am having the exact same issue. HP laptop will only charge once its shut down. Ran a battery check, its fine. I updated the BIOS and tried uninstalling battery drivers but still will not charge while on. The plug icon shows for about 5 seconds and then goes away when in use. ANy other ideas or help would be appreciated.

@bretesque Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are unable to charge the laptop.

As you have stated that you have already tried uninstalling the battery drivers and update the BIOS.

In that case, I would suggest you contact our phone support and check for the support option.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.
