I have exactly the same issue.  The laptop was getting flaky so I reinstalled everything - back to factory setttings. Updated everything but found that the wifi connection was not very unstable. Basically if I am within 3 feet of the router I get a faint wifi connection.  Same with my phone and hotspot devices - never more than a minimal connection which drops of quickly.  I have done all the diagnostics possible - including using HP assist to test the network connection.  It comes up with one of 2 results - there are no issues or we cannot connect to the wifi please ensure your router is on.
