OfficeJet 8600 Printhead error after firmware update

Accepted the firmware update this morning and was then greeted by "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed."  Tried all the troubleshooting steps: reset printer (unplug while on, wait 60 sec), cleaned and reseated printhead.  Reseated cartridges.  Repeated many times.

Could be a true printhead failure, I suppose, but the coincidence is striking.

Used as wifi printer only.

Can I downgrade the firmware somehow?

The following has evaluated to null or missing: ==> page.context.thread [in template "gz-hp.custom.reply.metoo" at line 4, column 22] ---- Tip: It's the step after the last dot that caused this error, not those before it. ---- Tip: If the failing expression is known to be legally refer to something that's sometimes null or missing, either specify a default value like myOptionalVar!myDefault, or use <#if myOptionalVar??>when-present<#else>when-missing.
