Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just an alert for anyone experiencing issues after BIOS update 01.06.03 issued February 15, 2019. Having updated my BIOS this morning 3/13/2019, the BIOS 01.06.03 update broke my ethernet and display adapters, as well as, my thunderbolt 3 dock, rendering evrything useful like ethernet connectivity and external displays on my notebook dysfuntional, that us except for my Wi-Fi controller. Thak goodness I still had that or my machine would have been totally dark. Unfortunately my former G3 ZBook was not so lucky and was ultimately replaced by HP with my current G5.

I use HP Image Assistant (v3.5.26) to update everything on my notebook since I realize HP customizes so many things that it generally isn't wise to rely on standrd driver updates via Wondows (Device Manager). Updating the BIOS via Imagae Assistant is always the way to go, but as a general practice, I never update anything else when doing a BIOS update: there are too many variables in case things go wrong. In this case things did go wrong and it seems Intel Management Engine components also require updating. I think taht is what broke everything else. It wans't until I updated the Intel Graphics 630 GPU manually via Device Manager that I was able to restore functionality.

Why on earth does HP continue to plague its ZBook users with poorly developed updates? I think there are far too many customizations and interelated drivers and support systems in play that obviously are not fully vetted by the dev shop folks before pushing out poorly tested updates.

I have alwyas valued HP products, from worktstation, notebooks, accessories to servers, but when it comes time to replace this machine I think I will be looking very hard at alternative vendors.
