I just bought an HP Z32 display. I am connecting it via the provided USB-C cable to my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th generation's USB-C port.
When the laptop's battery is not full, the display functions well and the laptop charges. When the laptop battery approaches full, it seems to enter into a cycle of charging and discharging. When this happens, the display disconnects and reconnects, and all the windows shift around.
This makes the display basically unusable when connected via a single USB-C cable, which is very annoying.
It seems like the way the HP display is delivering power over USB-C is wrong / buggy. The laptop works with a Dell display that delivers USB C power, so the issue is not necessarily with the laptop.
