HP Elitebook 840 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having a problem where the HP HD webcam (vendor: SunplusIT) stops and restarts in Zoom and the Microsoft Camera app on two of my HP Elitebook 840 G2 in windows 10.   When this happens, the webcam disappears from the Device Manager, and the webcam active LED goes out.  Then, it reappears in the Device Manager, the webcam light comes back on and it works for a few seconds before it disappears again.

I actually have several HP Elitebooks but only 2 of them exhibit this problem:

1st HP Elitebook 840 G2 (with SunPlusIT webcam): Problem exists.

2nd HP Elitebook 840 G2 (with SunPlusIT webcam): Problem exists.

3rd HP Elitebook 840 G2 (with another vendor webcam): No Problem (don't have access to clarify what the other vendor is)

4th HP Elitebook 840 G1 (with SunPlusIT webcam): No Problem.

5th HP Elitebook 820 G1 (with SunPlusIT webcam): No Problem.

6th HP Elitebook 840 G2: Unknown, don't have access to it right now.

So, from my limited sample, the problem seems to be specific to an 840 G2 with SunPlusIT webcam.

I rebooted the 2nd Laptop into Ubuntu Linux 20 and the Webcam worked fine there.   I have downgrade the driver and upgraded it again on the 1st laptop, but the problem still exists with both driver version.  The latest drive is 5.0.8.29 4/20/2020, the previous was from the HP Elitebook 840 G2 support/drivers website.  Both of the problem computers (and most of the others) have the latest BIOS per the HP Support Assistant.  I have done various google searches and found no reference to this specific problem (or anything else that solves the problem).   These are not still under an HP warranty, but are are still under the reseller's warranty (who I will be going to visit next week if I can't find a fix).

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
