Problem:  Microphone (headset) not working.

Details:

Kensington Headset Model: M01417 (4 pin 3.5mm jack)

HP Pavilion 550-153w

Windows 10 (OS Build 19042.572)

"Microphone" under OS system setting for sound shows: Realtek High Definition Audio

"Line In" under OS system settings recording shows: Realtek High Definition Audio (but not plugged in)

Headphone aspect works fine (have audio).  As well, the external speakers have audio.  The external speakers work as a microphone as well but the quality is very poor and the goal is to have the headset microphone work.  It should.

The headset is plugged in to the 3.5mm jack on the front of the HP Pavilion Desktop.  That said, there is also a "mic" jack in the back of the computer.  It's pink.  If I plug the headset in to this jack, the headphone audio doesn't work and the microphone doesn't work either.  This makes me wonder if I need some type of adapter for this to work and would correspond to the "line in" mentioned above.

The Microphone privacy settings are on.  This is under system settings for sound.

In researching, I've seen this issue mentioned several times, but not solution was provided.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight.
