Product: Chromebook x360

I bought 2 brand new HP Chromebook x360. Opened them yesterday, went through the prompts to "Check for Updates" and they were both stuck for hours. So I restarted, even did a power wash. Started the "Checking for Updates" last night and woke up this morning to the same thing, still checking for updates. I just want to use the computers. Why is it taking so long?
