New to this but not new to hp printers and am very disappointed....taking a long time to figure out issue with printer when all that I thought had to be done was to replace the darn black ink cartridge.  Searched and someone had posted exactly same question but reply not available to the public.  Extra frustrating!  Entire family just needs to print now!  I am simply cutting and pasting the other person's question here because it is identical to our problem.

When my black ink cartridge was running low, it warned me far in advance so I could prepare. Even once it ran out it allowed me to continue to print using the color cartridges. As soon as I replaced my black cartridge now it says my yellow cartridge is depleted, but unlike the depleted black cartridge it won't let me print at all  (even if I select black and white only). I don't care if my color documents come out in black and white only, I just need to print!!!! Also, why was there no warning that the color cartridge was running low?? I would have purchased both at once and saved some money.
