Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I have a printer less than one year old (OfficeJet Pro 7740) and changed cartridges for the first time.  Miraculously they were all empty at the same time.  After replacing all 4 cartridges with new ones (not HP-branded), I got the message indicating "non-HP chip".  HP support has been useless so far and I have wasted a few hours.  I understand there are multiple class action lawsuits related to forcing purchasers of HP printers to use their ink which is more than double the cost of alternatives.  Is there a legitimate fix?
