HP Z840 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Having memory and qpi link issues.

I replaced the mobo but issues remained.

They seem to disappear when I screw the heat sink not too tight by the way.

The replacement mobo so don’t seem to be the solution.

my old mobo, cpu socket 0 has a thin fracture on the black plastic base beneath the pins. I don’t trust using it.

Is it possible to keep the old mobo and ignore socket 0 and use one single cpu mounted to the second socket, cpu1?

thanks

no, the primary cpu must be in the cpu (0) socket

second, the HP z820/840 heatsinks are designed in such a way that fully screwing down the heatsink will apply the proper cpu cooler pressure to the cpu mounted in the  socket

third HP workstations will "NOT" work properly with engineering or ""QL"  cpu's you must use production/retail cpu's

some server network cards will cause issues in systems they were not designed for same for card/drivers designed for older OS's than what you have installed

ram issues can be caused from mismatched modules mismatched "dimm Ranks, improper ram load order, dirty ram or ram sockets, failing ram to name just a few common things
