Cybercriminals are becoming more aggressive, and no longer just send out fraudulent email messages or have fake websites. Cybercriminals today may even call you on the telephone claiming to be from HP Tech support. They use publically available phone directories to gather your personal information and even have the ability to show a different caller ID on your phone, so if you look up the number it appears to be from a legitimate HP support site.
Neither HP nor our Partners make unsolicited phone calls to charge you for computer support.
- Do not trust unsolicited calls.
- Do not provide any personal information to these callers.
- Report phone scams whenever possible:
- In the Unites States, use the FTC Complaint Assistant Form.
- In Canada, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
- In the United Kingdom, you can report fraud as well as unsolicited calls.
Reporting this on the HP Support Community helps too, so thank you for posting.
