I asked them how was it a coincidence to which they replied:
"Dear Kevin,
Thank you for writing back to HP Total Care.
Kevin, firstly, I apologize for the delay in your notebook repair. I understand how you feel, and will assure you that, we should be able to resolve this issue. However, your patience would be appreciated.
As you can understand any piece of electronic or computer hardware will not last forever and is bound to fail at some point of time. However, it is very unfortunate and a coincidence that it has happed with your brand new notebook. I have reviewed all the interactions of your email and I completely understand the situation.
If the system failed all the hardware tests out of the box (as explained in your first email), you should have requested for a replacement right away, when the unit is under 21 days replacement period. In that case, HP or the store you have purchased would have gladly replaced your notebook PC. If it is up to me, I would have gladly offered you a replacement. But, as you can understand, we are bound by HP warranty policies and we will not be able to make any exceptions in your case.
Hope you understand our limitations in this regard.

So...how was it a coincidence? It was mere chance? If it were a coincidence then it is implied that the hardware failed AFTER I had received it because what I take from the statement "any piece of electronic or computer hardware will not last forever and is bound to fail at some point of time" is that they assume I used it before it failed, and my usage (hoever brief) led to it. By HP's definition, my situation is hardly a coincidence. In the highly unlikely scenario it were true though, this would still not be a coincidence, unless HP is being literal when it says "at some point of time" and is including before the box is even opened. Of course "any piece of electronic of computer hardware will not last forever," but less than a day (again, absurdly assuming my usage caused it)? Are you kidding me?
The labtop would work, although slowly, in between freezes and I needed it for use. That is of course why I bought a labtop. I would deal with the hard reset until I didn't absololutely need it at the time, in which case I'd sent it for repair and have it in time for school. Again, when I sent it in for repairs the same problem persisted once I got it back. The fact that I have to go out of my way for something not working angers me.
