HP DesignJet Z6dr 44-in PostScript Printer with V-Trimmer TAA Compliant
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am attempting to upgrade the firmware on the office's HP DesignJet Z6dr V-Trimmer.  After downloading the most recent firmware from HP "JGR6_09_22_51.2.fmw" I copied it to an empty but formatted USB.  The download was successful.  The printer was able to read and download the firmware, however it reported "Firmware unsigned" during the upgrade process.  What do I do?

Hi,

please make sure the USB stick is formatted to FAT32, this might be crucial for reading the file correctly:

  • Copy the firmware file to an empty USB pen drive that is formatted in FAT32.
  • Plug the USB key into the USB port in the Front Panel.
  • A firmware update assistant will appear on the Front Panel to guide you through the update process.

Also, is the printer connected to the network or with USB connection only?

For a network connection, you may also try other methods such as checking for new updated from the pfront panel, the EWS page, or by loading the file from the EWS page instead and check if you may see any difference then:

Firmware Update
1. Using the printer's Front Panel:

  • Select Main Menu > Settings > Firmware Update > Check the Automatic box.

Manual Firmware Update
1. Using the Embedded Web Server:

  • Type the Printer IP in any web browser to open the printer's Embedded Web Server.
  • Select About printer tab > Firmware update.
  • Press Check now to check whether new firmware is available.
  • If new firmware is available, information about the new firmware is displayed, and you are given the option to download and install it.

2. Using the Embedded Web Server (Manual firmware update)

  • Access one of the following links to download the firmware that is already available at www.hp.com.
  • Type the Printer IP in any web browser to open the printer's Embedded Web Server.
  • Select the About printer tab > Manual Firmware Update.
  • Browse and select the latest firmware file that was extracted.
  • Click Update.
  • The firmware update process will start automatically.
