I've just ordered a HP prodesk 600 g2 for dirt cheep and I want to put the best CPU it can take into it. At the moment it has the i3 6100 (I think) in it. I know it should be able to then take the i7 6700 but what I wondered is since the socket type is the same on both i7 6700 and the i7 7700 would this prodesk take a 7th gen or better CPU?

The PC only supports the Intel 6th generation core processors.

 

An Intel 7th generation core processor is guaranteed not to work regardless of the fact that it may have the same socket.
