Pavillion 800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've recently bought a HP Pavillion 800 keyboard and discovered that the F1-F12 keys don't work unless the FN key is also pressed simultaneously. That's a bizarre design decision to say the least, so I need to switch the keyboard to its expected behaviour, i.e. the F1-F12 keys working without FN.

I've briefly googled for solutions and saw a few shortcut suggestions (FN+ESC, FN+CapsLock and so on), but none of them worked for me. Some people say there's a setting in BIOS to disable that odd FN key feature, but on my PC I haven't found such setting either. There's also a solution to use some 3rd party app that is capable of remapping of almost all the keys except for F6 and F7, which is just ridiculous.

Is there a known solution to fix this problem? It's quite hard to believe that HP has been aware of the problem for years and yet still sells buggy keyboards with no fix available.

@asdfawerf -- exactly which keyboard did you purchase?  Does it have a key labelled "FN LOCK"?

Press that key, just once, to "flip" the usage of F1-to-F12 to the alternate functionality.

Can you post an image of the right-hand side of your keyboard, to show all the keys to the right of the "F8" key into this discussion thread, so that we can see what you can see?

Hello
we always wrongly indicate that we can modify this in the bios
out, it is only with compatible laptops!
In general, there are no other choices, than what is already given.
And if what you've tested doesn't work either.
I give here what is possible until now, not yet seen a miracle solution

unfortunately the only possible solutions currently are software, or hardware replacement
There is a solution, but that is to block the key, and you may break the keyboard
Unfortunately either this is not suitable or user feedback

It was your bizarre decision to purchase that keyboard.

How recently was it bought? Will the selling store let you exchange it for a "non-bizarre" keyboard?

The question was asked here two weeks ago and no answer! At the same time, the problem has existed for a long time. This is clearly an unreliable conduct on the part of the manufacturer - Hawlet Packard company.

THERE IS THERE ANY SOLUTION DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER?

Or are you absolutely incapable of solving this problem definitely ...

We ask for a concrete and clear answer.

Many of the participants in this discussion forum are volunteers, donating their time & expertise to try to help.

So, comments like are you absolutely incapable will discourage those volunteers from trying to help you -- there are many other "open" questions that the volunteers can focus on.

By the way, @Prométhée gave you several links to other, similar, questions on this forum.

Which of those links have you accessed?  Did you try the suggestions given in those threads?

What is the exact model-number of the keyboard? With that information, it should be possible to find a clear image of your keyboard, to see what "special" keys it may have.

Hello
@CZgullyas @itsmyname  👍 indicated to you, clearly,  we are not HP customer service!
If you have not found an answer here, because indeed there is nothing else at this time, other than what has already been mentioned, and you have a problem, with HP, the best of them will be. say directly

Thank you, sadly that's what I thought. I haven't seen the solution with blocking the key before. Not sure I'll try it though, as you mention not good for the keyboard, and also not ideal appearance wise.

It was your bizarre decision to purchase that keyboard.

What a bizarre comment. Is the assumption here to ask the shop worker to connect the keyboard and test every single key before buying it?

Yes. Here is a image my keyboard:

@CZgully --  Is the assumption here to ask the shop worker to connect the keyboard and test every single key before buying it?

No, the assumption is that the customer will examine the keyboard, and determine that there are "double-labelled" F-keys, and that there is no "FN LOCK" key, and then to make a rational decision to shop for a different keyboard.

There is no need to "test" the keyboard -- just a simple inspection, either of the packaging box, or of the actual keyboard.

Have you now purchased a different keyboard that meets your needs?
