HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0230nf
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, i have an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0230nf and would like to know if this NVMe SSD would work on my device:

https://www.pccomponentes.pt/crucial-p3-plus-2tb-ssd-m2-3d-nand-nvme-pcie-40?utm_source=kuantokusta

Can you answer for both the 1TB and the 2TB please.

And if you want to help a bit more can you list or send me a website where it lists the upgrades i can do in my device please.

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

There isn't really much to know other than PCIe Gen 4.0 drives are faster than PCIe Gen 3.0 drives if your PC has a Gen 4.0 SSD slot, which yours does not.

So, what it comes down to is the future...and the cost difference.

If you have no plans on using the SSD on a PC that has a Gen 4.0 SSD slot where it can run at its full potential, then buy a Gen 3.0 SSD provided the cost is somewhat less than the Gen 4.0 SSD.

So, in your case, for 1 TB...if you have no plans to move the drive, get this one:

SSD Crucial 1TB P3 M.2 2280 NVMe - CT1000P3SSD8 | KuantoKusta

If you plan to install it on a future model PC, get this one:

SSD Crucial 1TB P3 Plus M.2 2280 NVMe - CT1000P3PSSD8 | KuantoKusta

The 2 TB is a different story.

It actually costs less to buy the faster 2 TB Gen 4.0 SSD, then it does to buy the Gen 3 one:

SSD Crucial 2TB P3 Plus M.2 2280 NVMe - CT2000P3PSSD8 | KuantoKusta

SSD Crucial 2TB P3 M.2 2280 NVMe - CT2000P3SSD8 | KuantoKusta

I also disagree with what that person wrote in the first discussion link I posted. "don't waste your money on any SSD that has a read speed of over 2000Mb/s, because you won't get any more speed than that out of it.'

I disagree because the faster read/write speed you buy, the faster it will run at even half speed.

For example, if you buy either one of the Crucial drives, they will run at around 1,750 MBPS read and 1,500 MBPS write.

If you were to buy a SSD that had a maximum read/write speed of 2,000 MBPS, it is only going to run at 1/2 of that speed from your PC's M.2 slot, or approximately 1,000 MBPS.

So, you want to buy the fastest drive you can so that it runs its fastest from the PCIe 3 x 2 slot--even if it is only 50%.

It's unfortunate that HP installed a motherboard with a PCIe 3 x 2 slot when most PC's from that time period have PCIe 3 x 4 slots, which would have allowed the NVMe SSD to run at or very close to its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

I hope what I wrote makes sense to you.

Hi:

Either drive should work fine but since your PC's M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, a Gen 4.0 SSD will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 NVMe slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can support:

PCIe Speeds and Limitations | Crucial.com

I also believe that NVMe SSD's only run at half their advertised speeds because the slot is PCIe 3 x 2 and not 3 x 4.

There is no HP listing of compatible upgrades for your PC.

Most folks rely on the Crucial memory/SSD reports for a model number or model series:

The only information available from HP is the motherboard specs:
