HP z420
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

 Hi to all!

Who knows, please tell me where the Reset Button on the HP z420 motherboard connects?

Here I found a pinout circuit for socket P5 "Front power button / LED".

Z420-Z620-Z820_Front_Panel_P5.PNG

But there, unfortunately, nothing is said about the Reset Button !? And I don't know where to look for this information now???

And even better, maybe someone can give a link where there is a pinout of all connectors on the motherboard of the HP z420 workstation? Or maybe someone will put here the pinouts of all the sockets, so that this information is always at hand?

The fact is that sometimes you have to clean the system unit from dust, or make some upgrades / mods / changes of components, etc. and therefore from time to time those thin wires necessarily jump out of sockets which are located in a line in the bottom of a system board and there is a need to know where to connect them again.
But without a clear scheme of their connection (pinout) we get a big problem and have to spend a lot of time searching for information bit by bit!

If there was one place with all the pinout of the motherboard, this problem would be solved!
And I'm sure it would be very useful not only for me but also for many z420 users!

there is no reset button for z420 and I have seen both Dell and HP motherboards missing "reset"

IBM started the "our product never needs to reset" with their infamous PS2 models.  I buy cases all the time and they all come with reset wires that go nowhere leaving a leftover button that does nothing.

Some info here

My z400 was documented which was nice because the 24pin power connector was non standard and need a mod. plus I had to add jumpers to USB ports and fan headers or the system would not boot unless I pressed F1.  I had put z400 into ATX cases so a problem.

Thank you very much, BeemerBiker, for the quick response!

If this Reset Button is not needed there, then now I suddenly received a bonus microswitch with a wire for all sorts of experiments and simulations lol ;))

As for the mods, yes, I also have this workstation not in my home building but in the ATX, but my motherboard does not squeak, because the previous owner put all the necessary jumpers! :))

By the way, here I found in one great topic almost all the necessary schemes for pinning the z420 motherboard, maybe someone will find it useful - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z420-front-panel-i...

This is what I was thinking of doing but never got around to it as windows has made it difficult to directly access pins on serial and parallel (printer) ports.  Plus, some system have none of those ports.

Connect one end of the left over switch to ground and the other to one of the readable pins on the serial or parallel port.

1  An app polls the pins to see if they are closed.    Possibly C#  can read the port and I dabble  in C#

2  Issue an eject to my USB3 "slot dvd burner" that has no eject button

--or--

2 Issue (somehow) an eject to itunes to disconnect my iPhone.  This is really needed as I know of no way to eject the iPhone unless iTunes is used and if I pull the plug I get errors that wont go away

If you got any ideas on what to do post here or PM me.
