Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i tried to run hp recovery and it ends with recovery incomplete with three buttons, log save log and retry.  i don't see what i can do with the saved log since all it is a compressed directory structure.  no log files in sight.  i've been up trying to figure this out all night and all morning and i'm at the end of my rope.  how i'm doing this is a i have a windows 10 disk from my old computer but of course it doesn't have any of the hp drivers or programs on it.

Hi:

What I suggest you try is this...

Use the Media Creation Tool.  Make the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

W10 will find the product key in your notebook's BIOS, install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

so you think the recover partition is corrupt

i was wondering if the recovery partition was corrupt but this is a new computer.  i've only been using it about 2 weeks.  maybe it came corrupt.

If you can't reset the PC, something is amiss.

wait this is a microsoft recovery file.  i already have a windows 10 install disc.  i want a hp recovery system so i have all the hp files and drivers already installed.   plus installing with windows 10 restore media seems to create an unstable installation.

never mind on the unstable installation.  earlier it would freeze up permanently or freeze and bsod every time i tried to use a file retreiver on my formatted main hard drive (not the windows drive).  windows did an update and so far it hasn't frozen up.  fingers crossed.  the bsod name i can't remember.  something about watchdog timeout or something.

What's the media you use? USB stick? Is this definitely error-free, has enough space and comes from reputable supplier?

Also, do you connect it to USB2 port? I did have similar troubles when I created mine and was using first-available USB3 ports. Moving to USB2 ports allowed me to complete this task successfully.

Failing that and assuming you have warranty liaise with HP Support on this.

You do the right thing: you must create this media - otherwise you will end up with no HP software & drivers (the alternative is to purchase these from HP for €30 or whereabouts. Luckily HP Recovery creator will not cease to work in this respect until recovery media is created and verified by this tool.

the media i used is a windows 10 restore disc from my previous computer.  the media the previous guy linked to is the same but in non dvd form.  what i need is a hp recovery media which i can't seem to find anywhere but on my recovery partition but that fails every time i try to restore from that.
