Installed yesterday - no sound coming out - user guide mentions sound but doesn't say if external speakers are required on this model.

Hi,

 

The HP 2311x  doesn't have internal speakers.  You will need to use separate speakers.  There are a few non-HP LED monitors around that do have speakers.  The issue with most LED monitors not having speaker is the thinness of the monitor.

 

HP has phased out the LCD monitors which some had speakers.  The HP 2310m does have speakers.  Do a google on it if you really what a monitor with internal speakers. I think Viewsonic makes some LED monitors with speakers.

 

If you really want a HP monitor with internal speakers then review this list of monitors.

Strange - Every monitor I have had in recent years had the sound built in - it never occured to me that it would not have sound.  I'll just go buy some cheap speakers - I'm not watching concerts or anything, so I don't need anything fancy.  Thanks!
