I got did not complete sucessfully. (259)

My brand new touchsmart 600 does the same thing. HP tech has uninstalled the Nvida driver and reinstalled. All windows updates including the 976972 patch have been installed. It still blacks out several times a day.  Now they want me to restore everything back to factory. I lose a months worth of downloads and programs to restore to what it was the day it arrived and blacked out then too.

Right now I refused the restore. Makes no sence if it was doing it with the factory installations.

Over $2000 for a computer that does not work correctly. I am afraid that the display driver will finally go black permanantly. Probably when the waranty expires!

I've been experiencing the same problem for a year and half and on 2 systems but I thought it was my monitor causing the black-out.  I bought my last slimline s3560f in Nov. 2008 but had other graphics and fan issues so it was replaced with my current slimline s5360f in May. My monitor goes black for few seconds but down't happen everyday. But wen it happens, it's usually more then once. My pc is still under warranty, think I'll have to give HP a call.

Thank you so much for your advice melander!   It worked for me!  No more "Update did not complete sucessfully (259)" messages!

The update installed successfully after uninstalling windows update kb976972 and restarting the computer!

For those who do not know how to remove the windows update here is how I did it:

  1. From START button search for "installed updates"
  2. Click on Veiw Installed Updates.
  3. Search for kb976972
  4. Right click on entry and the option Delete appears.
  5. Click Delete and follow instructions.

I just received my h9-1120t, and it crashes.  I have updated a lot of the drivers without success.

Note to hp: it would be nice if your driver update page updated itself based upon what updates one has installed.

I attempted to install sp44620, and I get the 259 install did not complete message.  When I look in the installed updates list I do not see KB976972.  I do have a KB976902.

What can I do?

To add to my previous post, one site I looked at suggested running a video card test using a program called FurMark.  When run, the test crashes and causes the PC to crash, which is the same response to what it does.

When I log into a program such as "World of Tanks" the PC crashes within 1 minute of the beginning of the game.
