HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b171ns
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to connect an external source (ie. XBox, PlayStation, or even DVD player) to my computer using HDMI-in input.

Picture is nice, but there is no sound going through. Does anyone has and idea, what may be wrong? My friend has the same problem with similar computer, so it seems that it is a software issue.

Thanks, Ales

I've figured it out (at least for me). I had the same issue, when playing PS4 through HDMI IN.

It's a problem with the September 11, 2018 Realtek Media Driver Update (v. 6.0.1.8536).

Go to Device Manager --> Sound, Video and Game Controllers --> Double Click "Realtek High Definition Audio" --> Driver Tab --> Click "Roll Back Driver".

This rolled it back all the way to 6.0.1.8176 from June 6, 2017. Now everything works!

There is a newer version of the driver on the HP support website (v 6.0.1.8454), but I'm not going to bother as this seems to be working for me.

Hope this helps!

@Ales10,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you uninstall the audio driver from device manager and then reinstall it from the below link and test.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Here is how it is done.

  1. Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Cheers!

Can you be more specific? Which audio driver?

I'm having the exact same issue, with the

HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b019

Windows 10 64bit

Everything had been working fine until 2 weeks ago. But all my audio drivers appear to have been updated months ago, so I'm not sure what the change is.

Hello guys, thanks for your suggestions. Finally it worked for me and for my friend too. Only difference is that I used the Realtek HD Audio driver version 6.0.1.8147 from June 7, 2017.

Thank you so much!
