HP 2159m Monitor, under image control in the OSD, custom scaling is grayed/blocked out. I need to access custom scaling but I can't. I saw somewhere that it might be because I am using an HDMI cable. Is it possible to access scaling while still using an HDMI cable?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Try scalling using the video card's Control Panel functions.

I can scale with the video card, but that leaves the screen blurry. Is there any way to unlock custom scaling on the OSD?

Hi,

If you are using HDMI or DVI (digital) then you will have to scale via the Control Panel.  VGA would allow you to use scaling but the picture quality might not be acceptable.  VGA which is an analog signal  will not be as good as a digital video signal.

I have the HP 2159m connected to my NVIDIA 460 and I don't have to scale.  I suspect that you might have another issues.

Be sure that your monitor resolution is set to 1920 by 1080 in the Display Control Panel.

Be sure that you have the latest monitor driver installed.

Download and install the latest video card driver from the video card manufacturer's web site.

Download and use DriverSweeper to clean out the video card driver and then reinstall the driver.  Read the directions before you use it and have the latest video card driver downloaded to your desktop prior to using DriverSweeper.

@ Demosthenes426

per konk6i3, The Custom Settings will be greyed out when they monitor receives default resolution.  Once you use a non-native resolution, the Image Control Option will be un-greyed.

Also, if you are using AMD video via HDMI, again per konk6i3:

"You need to go into the Catalyst control panel, find the option for HDTV and there should be the control to reduce the underscan to 0%. The issue is that HDMI is a CE ( i.e. TV) standard so the graphics card treats the HDMI connection as a TV and will underscan to compensate for standard TV overscan."

@ Demosthenes426, Please let us know how it goes.

Hi,

As previously stated, I don't use scaling with my HP 2159m and you shouldn't either.

Your issue in probably not the the HP 2159m.
