What do you mean, the motherboard won't support its own display ports?

I'm having the same issue with an 8100, want to use the Display Port (DP) instead of VGA from the graphics card but it wont detect the signal.

Really would appreciate some input on a solution from the HP support guys.

mmmmh i also called the hotline:

they told me, that i5 and i7 processors does not support onboard video.

sorry, but that is bull**bleep**, we have some 8100 with i5 processor that came preinstalled with just the onboard video and they work fine.

at the moment i am checking if they use a different motherboard for 8100 with and without pcie video cards preinstalled.

but why should they do that?

I was also told with i7 installed the onboard ports wouldn't work by their support line.

what type of motherboard did you have the i5 running on without graphics card?

I just finsihed playing around with the BIOS simulator and saw no settings that would allow one to enable onboard video. The only setting I saw that had anything to do with video was changing the IRQ.

I have the same problem here - no apparent configuration option in BIOS whatsoever. Running a NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 but desperately want to run another monitor on the onboard VGA port. Would be interested to hear if anyone can solve this problem.

Hello Again,

I have just had a long chat with HP Technical Support. They have confirmed that with the 8100s, as soon as you install an additional graphics controller, the onboard controller is disabled, full stop. There is apparently no way to enable the onboard controller at the same time as an additional one.

I guess I will be buying a DisplayPort to VGA adapter then!

OK adamjoesbury ,  but  on which segment is this full stop ?  When you install new BIOS version or reset BIOS, then must be on motherboard new settings with choices to enable Integrated Video Card?

I think that, the logical solution is in this case: i5 and i7 processors does not support onboard video.

(post from Helferich )

The most funny question is this, why is on motherboard Display Port and VGA connectors , if it does not work?  And  on the other way – what can I do with this PC, if my graphic card Radeon on PCI  Express bus  is broken up?

hi all,

i guess we are having the same problem. I am hoping that HP will fix this, because we surely need the onboard vga to be able to work.

It's a shame if they decide to ignore this problem, the product is not cheap and the feature is cut down.

Hopefully there will be a bios update to be able to enable the onboard vga.

Btw,

if HP have resolve the problem and the onboard VGA can be use, please let me know.

I lost one of the HDMI to VGA adaptor cabel, and try to find and buy a similar cable for replacement and it's not easy to find or cheap either it cost me around $50. And i have over 300 unit of these.
