I have an HP w2207 flat-screen monitor attached to a Pavilion Media Center PC m8147c. The monitor won't display info from the processor. We've had this problem intermittently since we've had the computer, but we'd reboot or let it sit overnight and it would be OK. Now it won't work at all. If you turn the monitor off and back on, it shows a box that says "Monitor Status; VGA Input-No input signal; DVI Input-No input signal; Recommended Settings 1680x1050-60 Hz." After that, a box appears at mid screen that says "Monitor Going to Sleep." Then it all fades away. Nothing appears unless I turn it off and back on again. If I disconnect the cable from the processor, it has a message that indicates it isn't receiving a signal and to check the connection. I can't update the drivers or even dowload the original disk because I can't see what the computer is doing. I hear the experts are out there today! Can you help?

Hi,

Try to perform a hard reset on both you pc and your monitor.

Performing a hard reset on pc.

1.  Disconnect the power cord from behind the tower.

2.  Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

3.  Plug the power cord back into pc.

Also check the video cord to make sure that it is firmly attached.

If this doesn't work, try connecting an external monitor to see if it will display, or try another video cable if possible.

When you are not receiving any signal there could be multiple reasons. First you could try using another cable, DVI, VGA. Also it could be the memory. First thing I would suggest would be turn off the system, unplug the power cable from the back of the tower, hold the power button down for 5 secs, then reconnect and power the system on. As soon as you hit the power button start tapping the "F9" key until it starts running tests. It will run a few different ones. If it allows you to do this please reply with the results of the test.

Well, I tried Michael's suggestion first, but after I plugged in the processor and before I reset the monitor it came back on and he monitor worked. So far so good, but then I thought, maybe I should try Shanae's idea to perhaps find out what was wrong. So my son disconnected the monitor and I disconnected the PC and we held down the power buttons and then plugged them in. I hit the f9 button, but, sadly, the PC started and I again have no visual on the monitor. So I'm back to square one. Help!

Hi,

When you performed the hard reset on the monitor, did you turn off the pc as well?  If not, try powering down both the pc and monitor and try to perform the hard reset again on both the pc and the monitor.  When your down with the hard reset on both the monitor and the pc, turn it on to see if you get a display and can boot into windows.  If so, try shutting down and restarting the pc over and over just to make sure that your pc is work properly.

The first time I just did the PC and it worked, the second time, I did just the PC and tried pressing f9 and I couldn't see it. The third time my son and I did it pretty much simultaneously on the PC and the monitor, though I had to plug in the monitor before the PC. That time, no image. That's where I am now.

Do you happen to have another monitor you could connect? This could help us rule out the monitor as the issue or if it is the system.

I have another monitor, but it has a different cable so I can't plug it in. The monitor did come on the one time so it is at least capable of it and I was guessing since it came on that means my video card works. ??

Hi,

Try to see if you can boot into your BIOS by repeatly pressing the F10 key when you hit the power button to turn on your pc.  If so, press the F5 key to reset the BIOS to defaults and see if you can load into windows.

I hit the f10 key, but I had nothing on the monitor. When it stopped processing, I hit f5, but then after a bit, it shut itself down. I've rebooted several times and a couple of those times it shut down after a few monutes. The monitor is still not working. It only worked the first time and sadly I shut it down. I'm afraid I may be making it worse.
