I have an Hp Pavilion a1620n with an ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard using Phoenix Technologies Bios VER.3.16 and running Windows 7. I want to upgrade the processor and have been told that I must upgrade the Bios prior to upgrading the processor. I have researched but can't find any info on how to do this for this particular machine. There is no onboard Bios Flash program and I can't seem to find any information. Any ideas?

There are no software/BIOS updates for Win7 for the computer.  It is unlikely that there will be one developed.  However, there is a BIOS update for XP.  You will have to do a System Restore back to the original configuration which includes XP.  Once this is complete, you can update the BIOS to version: 3.19.  You can do the update using the executable file (sp35100.exe). Although, it doesn't mention anything about allowing for upgrading the CPU.  Here are the Motherboard Specifications for the computer.  In the section titled Processor upgrade information, it lists the CPU upgrades that HP supports.

Thanks for your reply. After the research I had done I had a feeling that I was out of luck with the processor upgrade unless I did restore to Win XP. As you said though, it doesn't mention anything about supporting a processor upgrade so I think 'll just wait until I need a new machine. Again I thank you for your input.

P5LP-LE Lithium Rev 1.04 mb in HP Media Center PC M7250N, flashed BIOS w/SP26758 and it is now toast. boots up in AWARD BOOT BLOCK BIOS v1.0 which will not let me do anything. i need a flash utility to try and flash from a bootable floppy, a flasher that will work with .rom files (which i extracted from the SP26758.exe, 317.rom). all the AWARD flashers i've used in the past used .bin files containing the BIOS data. in researching my problem i have found this problem i've got is NOT uncommon.
