After researching several options, I decided to take the simplest first. I have an HP Pavillion P6000 Series tower. The monitor is also an HP. I replaced the battery on the motherboard.
My first step was to simply take out the battery and after a few minutes, reinstall it. This allowed the monitor to remain on for a few minutes. Considering this seemed to solve the problem, I purchased a NEW CR2032 battery (comes in a pack of 2 for abot $6), and installed the new battery. The montior is working Excellent now and there are no issues.
To replace the battery, remove all cords to your tower. There is ONE screw on the bottom of the tower that holds on ONE of the side panels. By removing this single screw, you can then slide the side panel off of the tower. With that done, you will clearly see the motherboard and the nickle sized battery sitting on top of the motherboard. Simply remove the battery and install the new one.
I hope this helps.

Ok this problem has plagued me for the last 4 weeks. Right in the middle of very important work my HP 2511x monitor said "no input received" and promptly went to sleep. I nearly threw it out the window. I lost important graphics I was working on. I was pissed.
Turned the computer off. Turned it on...all ok...then again later in the day.
I started to figure out it was in 4 hour increments.
Talked to the bro-in-law and he asked me if Windows updates came through recently, I said yes...then...hey there...why would Windows change my monitor settings?
He seemed to think it was a universal way for Microsoft to turn off all monitors that were not being used in big governement offices, or large corporations. A way for them to save $$$ on energy costs by kind of hijacking our monitor statuses and turning them off.
BUT I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF WORKING!!!!! What?!
I went into the office the next day and he was right. Microsoft took it upon themselves to change my monitor settings to go to sleep after 4 hours. I was ready to go buy a new monitor! I had taken the desktop into service questioning my old graphics card...so the service guy upgraded my RAM and upgraded all the drivers, so all was good there...but really?
Do they all want us to really go buy an Apple product? when they mess with settings that they should not be messing with this pisses me off.
SO my friends. When you can get on - go to your Control Panel, Appearance, Screen SAVER - ADVANCE....then turn it on HIGH POWER and NEVER let it go to sleep...unless you shut it down. and SAVE THIS SETTING....
EVERY Windows update now I have to do this.
on another note....I watch hulu and netflix at home thorugh a laptop tied to my nice large screen. And that particular laptop (new Toshiba model) was changed by Microsoft to turn off the monitor after 5 MINUTES. After removing my cat 2 times from my lap I realized.....@#$@#@ WINDOWS UPDATE! !#$!$#! so I set that one to burn away now..... NO SLEEP
make sure you check these settings. I have Windows VISTA on my older desktop and my older HP laptop and Windows 7 on the newer laptop.
Why does Microsoft think they know best? I only have one mother - they could have at least told me they were doing those changes....weird!!!!!

Hello Ashleyash,
I understand you are not receiving any image on your monitor just getting no signal, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
What is the make and model of the monitor that you have. The information should be posted on the back of the monitor on a sticker.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

Hello deegish,
You’re getting an error no signal.
Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while the power source is removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
Check all the cable connections.
You may want to try another cable to connect the monitor.
Let me know how everything goes.
