I have recently replaced my defunct nvidia gpu with a similar model which has the benefit of an hdmi port, the previous gpu had a connector to the mobo presumably for spdif pass thru ? the current gpu has no such connector but should pass thru audio via hdmi ? .The current status of the nvidia control panel is "Your graphics card is almost hdcp compliant".

Can anyone provide any insight regarding lack of audio with this GPU.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi Scotty,

Many of the reference model 9800 GT video cards do have the SPDIF connector.  If your model card has the SPDIF connector then it should be located near the SLI connector and just to the front of it.  This link will give you the information on where to look. You might even have to remove the video card cover to see if it is hidden.

If your card doesn't have the SPDIF connector then you have these options:

Use a DVI connector with an audio cable

Use the optical or coaxial output from the back I/O plate on your PC to your TV.

HP ENVY 6055, HP Deskjet 1112
HP Envy 17", i7-8550u,16GB, 512GB NVMe, 4K screen, Windows 11 x64
Custom PC - Z690, i9-12900K, 32GB DDR5 5600, dual 512 GB NVMe, gen4 2 TB m.2 SSD, 4K screen, OC'd to 5 Ghz, NVIDIA 3080 10GB

Hi Scotty,

You will need to connect the SPDIF output header on the motherboard to your NVIDIA GT 9800.  Review the motherboard layout diagram upper left hand corner. If you didn't get a SPDIF cable with your video card then try www.Newegg.com for the appropriate SPDIF cable.

You will also need to change the sound routing in the control panel Interface program Realtek HD Audio Manager.  When you switch to HDMI audio you will notice that no sound will be available from your PC speakers.  It's one or the other.

Hi Big Dave, thanks for taking the time to reply, unfortunately there is nowhere on this graphics card to connect to the motherboard internally as per original gpu, which was not a concern as I presumed the hdmi port would carry the audio when connected to my plasma.
