I have similar issues with dc7900usdt, 8200 elite sff and 6000 pro sff and only in Windows 7 x86.

We have been using SSM and BiosConfigUtility for years with no problems in an XP environment but when trying to apply it on our new Windows 7 x86 environment it's a no go.

BiosConifgUtility.exe /getconfig:bios.txt sais BCU return value 16 and the file bios.txt is empty.

If I run the same command in Windows XP on the same computer it works and gives me a nice bios.txt.

We have about 9 different HP models and all except 6000pro sff and dc7900usdt and 8200 elite works.

If I try to run:

BiosConfigUtility.exe /setconfig:bios.txt (the bios.txt from the XP-dump) I get Problem reading file: bios.txt. BCU return value 11.

But again the same bios.txt works flawlessly in Windows XP.

In my test I'm not using any pwd but I have tried /nspwd:password and /cspwd:"" and just about all combinations I can think of.

I have UAC turned off and I'm running as Administrator.

BiosConfigUtility version= 2.15.0.7

Just a heads up on this thread. We are also having this issue with the 8200 SSF PCs.

We have tried rolling back to 2.14 Rev. A of the BIOS and this still does not fix the issue.

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

Hello we have the same problem with all 6000 series and seems like all desktops. we are using the biosconfig version Errors when configuring bios settings using HP Biosconfigutility.exe - Version 2.14.0.8

where do get a newer version I see on posts a 2.15, but can not find on HP website.

Models affected:

HP Compaq 6000 Pro AiO Business PC

HP Compaq 6000 Pro SFF PC

HP Compaq 6005 Pro SFF PC

HP Compaq 6200 Pro SFF PC

HP Compaq 8100 Elite CMT PC

HP Compaq 8200 Elite AiO Business PC

HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor

HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF PC

Problem observed:

When we run the biosconfigutility with the follow command, we receive the errors displayed. We have researched all available online and system documentation and have only found others users with similar issues but no solution, which works. We do not see this issue when gathering and setting Bios settings with laptop computers. It only fails with Desktops. Various BIOS versions exist on the desktop but that does not seem to matter as the error occurs on all. The password is correct, we can access the bios via F10 and we can make changes via F10 to the bios settings. The BCU return value" real="16" translated="16" means “16=BCU: Unable to write to file or system”. This error is consistent when attempting to get a txt file of the existing bios settings. When run it creates the txt file but it is empty.

Command Line Errors:

C:\Temp\TPMBiosConfig>Biosconfigutility /cspwd:"password" /getconfig:"CurrentBio.txt"

<BIOSCONFIG Version="2.14.0.8" Computername="ADITWIN7-68824D" Date="2012/05/03"

Time="12:45:20" UTC="-7" >

<Warning msg="BCU return value" real="16" translated="16" />

</BIOSCONFIG>

C:\Temp\TPMBiosConfig>

Websites with possible solutions which we tried but did not solve issue.

Kchusa - this link is to the 8200 Elite PC SFF downloadable drivers and software it contains BIOS version 2.15 Rev. A and the System Software Manager too.

however, it may not be suitable for the hardware you mentioned.

add me to the list.  I've got 8200's and all I ever get is real=16 translated =16 warnings, with a blank output file

I ran the same command on a Z210, and couldn't "getconfig" on that model either.

We're only experiencing it with setting that one single BIOS configuration as mentioned at the top of the thread, we didn't have any issues getting the config from the machines.

We've also got HP looking into the matter. So hopefully there will be a solution shortly :generic:

Same Issues here on a Folio 13, tried all the versions I can find. Not terribly suprised since its not officially supported. Has anyone gotten a later version that talked to HP?

Nothing in terms of a permanent solution yet. They've had me try all sorts of things for this problem, rolling back to older versions of the BIOS, trying older versions of the BIOSConfigUtility, trying manual changes. They've gone through possible problems from suggesting hardware faults, to our SOE, to problems with the TPM chip itself.

So, in short, no solution yet.

I just found this thread because of a similar issue.  I've setup some tasks which appear to work on an EliteBook 8560p, but the same commands don't work on a Compaq 8200 Elite CMT.  After dumping both BIOS (which are cuurent revisions), I noticed that the options are slightly different, so the commands won't work cross platform.  I've been able to successfully set other items with BCU so it would appear to be working in at least some cases.

However, related to TPM, I found a difference between the platforms in this area:

On the EliteBook 8560p, the particular BIOS settings (from biosconfigutility.exe output) are:
Embedded Security Device Availability
*Available
Hidden
On the Compaq 8200 Elite CMT, the BIOS settings are:
Embedded Security Device
Device hidden
*Device available
I'm not sure if this is related or not, but thought it was an interesting difference which may cause issues for cross-hardware compatibility.  I realize BIOS options can't be 100% available on both platforms, but for the options that are, shouldn't they at least be worded the same for consistency?

I keeep getting a TPM error message on my DV9700(serial # CNF83017G4) can anyone help?
