Upgrade of proprietary HP Compaq PSU

I need to upgrade the 320W PSU in a HP Compaq 6000 Pro Desktop to fit a dual output KFA2 GTX 560Ti card but its a non standard unit with what looks like HP proprietary P1, P2 & P3 outputs.  Can anyone tell me what HP or 3rd party PSU options I can use because I can’t find any info?  If not we will have to send it back.  This is the first time we have had to go into a HP box and the problem now is that I would have no confidence specifying hardware if we can’t get round the problem.

Is this the Compaq 6000 Pro model that you are describing?  If yes, then this PC only has 1 PCI-E x16 slot so two video cards are out.

Yes it looks like a special made power supply.  Even the sata drives are powered off the motherboard.  Interesting design.:smileysurprised:

Thanks for the quick response.  Yes it's a HP Compaq 6000 Pro Desktop, Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, DVD±RW, GMA 4500, Windows 7 Pro 32bit - bought from http://www.ebuyer.com/240837-hp-compaq-6000-pro-desktop-vw193et-abu - but to clarify I am only trying to put one card in which has 2 DVI outputs which requires 2 power inputs.  I think I can fix the power feed using the SATA power cables but the PSU won't be big enough.  If someone can tell me what the specs are for the P2 connector I can go hunting for either an HP upgrade part or a 3rd party alternate.  Perhaps I'm being thicker than normal but I can't see an upgrade option on HP's web site?

Hi,

It might be possible to use a new totally modular PSU that supports the 8 pin ATX power connector or possibly dual 4 pin ATX connectors and then try and figure out (measure) the voltages on the smaller power connector.  It might be an older 6 pin aux. power connector.  I wouldn't try to power the video card off the motherboard.

This HP manual might be helpful.  You would have to measure out the voltages at the connectors before you try a new PSU or something might go up in smoke.

Thanks for your help.  I think we're got it sorted but sadly not with the solution we wanted.  I'll have to think carefully before buying more HP kit to make sure they aren't more dead ends.
