Thanks again.

One more newbie question. I see two different 1 GB cards available at the same price:

1GB-DDR333 PC2700, 184p DIMM, 2.5v, Sync, CL=2.5

1GB 128x64-400MHz DDR400 PC3200, 184p DIMM, 2.5v, Sync, CL=3.0

Is one better than the other for my HP Media Center M380n? I plan to buy a pair of one or the other.

I don't know which is better.

Your PC should work with either.

Therefore I would opt for the higher spec PC3200, even if the  speed of the memory is limited by other factors.

Thanks again. That's what I had planned. The cards are on their way.

Hi

I have a problem.  I have purchased 2 x4Gb DDRIII DIMM memory for my CQ5301DE.

It says here "Supports up to 4 GB* on 32 bit PCs", but I have a 64 bit Win 7, so i assumed, it will be OK

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01977966

Would it be possible for me to have all 8Gb memory working, because right now it sees 8Gb but "usable 3.5Gb".

I found that by remapping the memory, this issue might be addressed, but, I couldn't find the way to do that in BIOS. Wanted to update my Bios, but there was no update available..

When entering BIOS, all 8Gb is recognized.

I wonder how come that right now out of 2 pieces of 4GbDIMM's only one is working, but both recognized?

It is almost as I had a 32bit System installed.

i'm stuck, please help

You need to install a 64 bit version of your OS.

Hi

I have a 64bit Home premium installed, and that is what makes it so strange. Anyways, I have solved the issue, by returning the RAM`s. It seeme as such a great machine, never even occured to me that it only supports 4 Gigs of memory. Too bad

Cheers

Are your two PCs  identical models with the same OS ?

What OS are you using ?

Have you added the Kingmax 2GB card, or is it the only one in your PCs?

The beeping sound is characteristic of a memory problem.  Presumably you have checked the DIMM memory module was seated in the socket properly, and taken it out and put it in again, and tried the card in both sockets of your PC ?

Sometimes a DIMM card from a particular manufacturer, although the main specification is right, because of unpublished detailed diffierences in each manufacturer's DIMM cards, a particular mnufacturer's model of DIMM card will not work in a particular model of PC.  This is why I asked if your two PCs are identical.

Is the memory on the DIMM the correct density ?
