Whats funny is they do not know anything about it...I talked to Eric B, a HP Case Manager in HP AMS TCO Escalations Team and he said they were not aware of any problems with these motherboards....of course, he refused to help me but NO MORE HP for me and I am making sure everyone I talk to knows they products are not good.

Add me to those with this problem. Computer is about 2 years old.  I continued to have crashes where my HDD was not found. But if I powered down and waited a half hour, it would work again for a while. I discovered that the afore mentioned heatsink was too hot to touch. I took off the heatsink and discovered black burn marks on the board around the chip. I cleaned the chip and heatsink and coated it with Ceramique thermal compound. I then added a fan blowing directly on the heatsink. I have had the computer on for about 4 hours and the heatsink is cooler than the CPU heatsink. I did not contact HP about this, but I didn't expect anything from them. If they see this and want to pay me the $18 (overpriced) for my parts, my checking account number is... (wait, never mind!).

You are lucky. Most people come to this forum looking for answers just a little too late.

Again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, if HP would contact registered owners of PCs that are running this hot NVIDIA chip, and offer a fan, they would make a lot of customers happy.

This thread seems to believe it's an nvidia heat issue.

I was able to load Ubuntu (linux) and it works fine.

I don't have HP dvd's, i've tried XP and Vista, neither will load.

I think it could be something with the bios?  Is there anyway to update the bios without windows loaded?  Or before windows loads.

Same problem here. Pavilion 6310f.

Definitely won't be buying HP again...

Got my new mb today.. asus m4a785-m, popped in the processor ram etc.. fit perfect in my p6310f case.. tryed to repair install but it didnt take.. so going to have to do a fresh install. But all is well on the mb now. Now Hopin it takes the cd key and activates without a hitch. Wish me luck!

did you use ubuntu live cd?  its possible that cdroms sata port is still functioning and the other isnt..

I for one know it was a heat issue on my board. The pc would not boot ever until i installed a fan on the nvidia chip heatsink,.. then it would run for a few minutes..

yes, used USB.  I guess I have a different problem.  New hard drive and power supply but can't load windows at all, blue screens.  Thinking it was bios or drivers

the other boards listed on here seem to be out of stock everywhere

everything with the exception of the power connector plugs in and works perfectly,

i now need to rewire it, but the board instructions come with a map of the connectors so should be just a matter of moving the connectors in the plug.  does anyone know which wires are which or a place i can find out?
