My HDMI port is neither working with my Laptop nor with my PS3/DVD Player etc..

Recieved replacement monitor. Firmware was older than my new monitor and case arrived popped, but snapped back together.  Did some testing. Summary: if connected via HDMI and Windows 7 sleeps the display adapter, monitor does Check video cable.  If you move the mouse, things come back.  If you wait until the monitor enters power saver/sleep mode, when you wake the PC display, the monitor wakes back up, but comes back configured for  VGA instead of autoscan or HDMI. 

I think the workaround is to get the monitor into fixed HDMI mode. Go to Main Menu, Source Control, highlight Auto-Switch Source, press OK, select OFF, press OK.  Then select HDMI.

I just replacesd my laptop with a Dell XPS 15 which has an HDMI port only.  Last laptop used VGA and worked fine. 

 

My problem is the same "check video cable."  When I manually go into the on-screen menu and select HDMI, it works fine.  Once it's turned off, it defaults back to VGA and the "check cable" message returns.  I tried both auto-select on and off and the monitor always defaults back to VGA next time.

 

I tried telephone support today and they were of no help, and told me the monitor is out of warranty, though I can't believe I've owned it a year - I'll have to find my receipt.  However, from what I've read here, there's a design flaw in the monitor, not remembering or recognizing the HDMI signal and I doubt replacing the monitr will help.

 

Guess I'll give this one to my wife and buy a new (non-HP) monitor.

From other posts it seems like you have to try a high quality hdmi cable.

you must remove the monitor from the stand and look at the bottom -- the serial number and the model number are there on stickers.

I just bought a 2711 monitor and it is advertised as vga/dvi/hdmi.  IT IS NOT HDMI  when I plugged in the hdmi cable in the monitor searches for a signal then goes to sleep.  I called  the fabulous  Support line and was told that the 22inch  version is HDMI compliant.

 

ON A Different note. I can find NO HELP anywhere for my w2558hc HDMI monitor that went white screen (Kaput) on how toget the back of this monster or how to troubleshoot/repair it.   It was an awesome monitor that lasted 4 years FUll HDMI/speakers/mic/camera/usb ports  etc. no  help for taht anywhere I could find.
