LaserJet 1320
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I am unable to use my LaserJet 1320 with either Mac desktop of new MacAir (BigSur).

I understand that this is an issue with certificates.  Is the only option to abandon HP printers after using them exclusively for over 30 years?

Most printer vendors have had issues related to Big Sur, it is not just HP. The challenge with older hardware is that in some cases it cannot be updated to meet current security requirements. The computer world is a lot different than it was when 1320 was released. Is it HP's fault, not entirely because the printer was built with components that were available at the time and often that hardware does not support newer, more secure networking protocols. The situation is much like that faced by TV manufactures when analog TV was discontinued due to digital broadcasting and old TV's either had to use some type of adapter or be replaced.
