We have a good old VSX 5000 that we have not used for over a year. When I plugged it in today, the lights on the machine come on, yellow then green, but there is no picture on the screen (a large Samsung TV).

I have connected the VSX 5000 to the same TV the last time it was used. On the video front, and since my TV does not have a Mini-DIN port, I am using a Mini-DIN to RCA cable.

What are the basic steps for troubleshooting video connectivity? Could this be a hardware problem?

Thanks.

Hi there...

take a look at the "Setting up the VSX 5000" sheet, which can be found here.

Try to connect the machine to a vga monitor to see if that´s working.

During bootup press the "*" key to change the first monitor to vga instead of s-video.

The other option is to connect the vsx via scart or s-video to your screen.

We have a similar problem.  We've been using a VSX 5000 for about 6 years.  It's always been reliable. Today it came up with a black screen.  I tried a different monitor and cable, but no luck.  Then I tried repeated power cycling, and on the fourth try it came up and worked fine.

Anybody else experience this?  Can you recommend a repair?  Thanks.
