In the Device Manager click on disk drive. That is where you will see which type of drive is installed in your laptop.

All Windows Operating systems have the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"listed in the Device manager.

If your hard drive is SATA it will say ATA  device. 

 

When you find out which type drive you have installed you can indeed install a 160GB hard disk. 

You will need to buy the frame (it is called a caddy for the second hard drive) from HP.

Hi Erico,

 

My computer is a HP Pavillon dv2500- dv2699ef (special edition). It's a wonderful computer but I'm wondering which component could be upgraded to better fit my needs (proc,RAM memory or video card).I'm only playing 1 video game with it but I'm a bit short with my current config and believe an upgrade of the RAM or video card will help a lot. I don't want to buy another computer just for this matter...Concerning the RAM memory,this computer is said to max at 2*1GB but I've read on the net that it actually works fine with 2*2GB.One should just upgrapde to a 64bit system AND update the BIOS to make sure it manages the 4GB memory.

 

What do you think about this and which component upgrade do you think is worth considering?

Compatible Upgrades

 

Processor: Intel Core  2 Duo T9300 (2.5 Ghz,     3MB L2 cache)

                     Intel Core  2 Duo T7700 (2.40 Ghz,, 4 MB L2 cache)

                     Intel Core  2 Duo T7500 (2.20 Ghz,  4MB L2 cache)

                     Intel Core  2 Duo T7250 (2.0 GHz,    2MB L2 cache)

                     Intel Core  2 Duo T5450 (1.67 Ghz,  2MB L2 cache)

 

Memory:     can be upgraded to two 2048-MB modules (667Mhz, PC2-5300) use CPU-z to verify the memory bus speed on your current modules. HP sells these w/ spare part number 455739-001. Also verify the identifying information for your motherboard with CPU-z.  The motherboard identifying information that you provided is incomplete.

 

Video:         Am unaware if your specific laptop model options included a discrete graphics model or an integrated graphics chip. If CPU-z shows  Nvidia 8400 graphics then you probably have an integrated graphics chip.

This looks like good news! I've checked the motherboard identification using your CPU-z and found this compatible processors list which look more exhausitve :http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=28116

Do you think I should stick to the list you gave me for safety?Do you think the extreme processors family will work fine?

Should I care about the different L2 cache  and system TDP?

I put the B in HBM in bolt on purpose....

The list that I supplied is of  known compatible processors used by HP in your model. There is support in the BIOS for all that I listed.

You can try the Extreme Edition models, but you  run the risk of  discovering that they are not supported by the HP custom BIOS. That risk is yours alone.
