how can i go about upgrading the processor and graphic card?
Thanks for your help.

Your graohics solution is an onboard one. It is currently not upgradeable. The graphics can be externally upgraded. Read the Notebook Upgrade FAQ rof more information. .

I will get back to you with more information on the CPU upgrade information.

Best regards,
erico

Erico, how about my situation?

HI,

I've had my Compaq Presario CQ50-105EO for quite a while now.

I want to upgrade it with new RAM, an SSD and a dual core CPU.

Now my my laptop's mainboard is a Wistron 360A 8.60 with nVidia GeForce 8200M chipset.

I know that my CPU is a Sempron SI-40 Socket S1 (638).

Now the CPU I want to upgrade to is a AMD Turion 64 X2 Socket S1 (S1G1)

I don't know if it is supported.

But then I take a look at which CPU's are supported.

For instance, the AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core RM-70 is supported, which is also a Socket S1 BUT it's a S1G2.

So please, unlock this mystery for me.

Would I be able to upgrade it to an AMD Turion 64 X2 Socket S1 (S1G1)? yes

The following are all compatible processors: They are actually all socket S1.  That can be verified at the AMD website.

Turion™ Ultra Dual-Core ZM-82 2.20-GHz
processor (35W, 2-MB L2 cache)
Turion Ultra Dual-Core ZM-80 2.10-GHz processor
(35W, 2-MB L2 cache)
Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00-GHz processor
(35W, 1-MB L2 cache)
Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core QL-60 1.90-GHz processor
(35W, 1-MB L2 cache)

SSD will probably only be an option only if you clone an OS to an SSD.  The BIOS does not have the option to disable native SATA. That is what makes upgrading to SSD a bit tricky.

Memory: That you can find yourself. only use guaranteed , compatible ram from a memory maker such as Kingston, Crucial. Don't limit youself  to those two manufacturers but don't bother with no-name memory.

Actually, erico, you didn't quite answer my question.

The Turion 64 X2 is almost identical to the ones listed. It's a Socket S1, only difference between that and the RM-70 is the S1G1 and S1G2.

So, could it possibly fit?

But could I perhaps buy one of the compatible CPU's through you or AMD?

The AMD Turion 64 X2  doesn't tell me much without a model number. It is generic without more info. I did list a Turion 64 X2 that is listed as compatible by HP.

Read the post agaim. I updated it a few minutes ago. There are also S1G3 and S1G4 sockets and processors.

S1(G2) processors will fit in your system board socket 1.

erico

It's one of these CPU's I refer to:

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6GHz CPU TMDTL50HAX4CT

AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 2x2GHZ TMDTL60HAX5DC

Would either of them be compatible?

Neither of the two are compatible.

Only the CPU's that I listed are guaranteed compatible and listed by HP as optional CPUs for your notebook's system board.

Aaw, too bad then... I could've got a sweet deal on the 2 Ghz. model.

Anyway, would this one be compatible:

AMD Turion 64 X2 RM-70/RM-74 be compatible? 🙂
