Hi...

I have just revived an old dv9038ea (broken GPU - Nvidia Go 7600), given it 2GB RAM and I'm considering giving it a new CPU. The standard CPU is an old Centrino Core 2 Duo 1.66 GHz (FSB=667MHz - can't remember the model number) and the replacement I'm considering is a T7300 Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz (FSB=800MHz).

Do you have any idea if this will work ? I can't seem to find any information on the max FSB on the motherboard in this PC.

A T7200 Core 2 duo mobile processor (2.0 Ghz) is the fastest compatible processor that is supported for your notebook. It is also a 667 Mhz FSB CPU.  Any other processor is not guaranteed to have BIOS support. Chances of getting the dreaded CPU  not supported by the systemboard error message from the BIOs with the T7200 make it a $$ risk.

Hi i have a HP dv6 2020 ev with a core i7 720qm 1.6Ghz processor , 4 gigs of ram and a geforce 230m graphics card. i'm into gaming and i want to upgrade my laptop , so i want to know wether i can upgrade the graphicas card to the geforce gtx 485m. when i checked the NVIDIA website both the 230m and the 485m use the same express PCI-E 2.0 slot

I would also like to upgrade the processor to the i7 920 or 940xm and ive checked that 720 ,920 and the 940 have the same socket (socket g1).

And also increase the ram , can someone also tell me what's the max amount of ram that i can put in it?

The

only other dicrete graphics card that is currently supported by the BIOS is a nVidia N10P-GE with 1-GB dedicated memory.

I would also like to upgrade the processor to the i7 920 or 940xm and ive checked that 720 ,920 and the 940 have the same socket (socket g1). The only other CPU that is compatible is the i7-820-QM, 1.73 HHz, SC Turbo up to 3.06 GHz. Installing any other processor is a risk. It would be very likely that you would see the BIOS message that states "incompatible processor installed".

And also increase the ram , can someone also tell me what's the max amount of ram that i can put in it? 8GB  is the maximum supported. . You would need to install two 4096 MB modules@ To use 8GB you would need to have a 64-bit OS installed. If you have a 32-bit OS then you would only be able to use @3.25 GB of the installed 8 GB memory

Please identify your notebook/pc .

Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker.

Post items numbered 1 and 2 on the following image. Your barcode may be slightly different but will still have the important imformation needed for us to help you.

###Do not post the serial number as it is personal information.###

Post the installed operating system version ( and whether it is 32 or 64-bit ) and whether the CPU is an AMD or Intel product

Not posting all of the information as requested will delay our responses and slow troubleshooting of the issue that led you to author a thread.

The manual states that the requirements for the modules are:

ATI Discrete PCI Express MXM

nVidia Discrete PCI Express MXM

The nVidia GTX 560M is available in an MXM 3.0b (82mm) footprint.  The problem with that is that your systemboard has a MXM 2.0 (73mm) slot and the width is not the same. So a GTX560M will not work since it physically won't fit.

I hate to bear bad news, but it is better to know than spend your hard earned money for nothing.
