I don't understand how this topic is considered solved.  Even though the pinout has been identified there is still not a product that can be purchased.  I have a Mini 110-3030r with the same issue.  When I bought the 110 I asked about the 4 conductor jack and was told that an adapter was included.  HP really dropped the ball on this.

Thanks wheel_nut for figuring out the pin assignment!

Has anyone identified a specific product that meets the pinout specs?

I started this thread asking for either:

a) the Part Number of a suitable adapter ... or ...

b) the pinout connections of the socket so I can make an adapter myself.
Having figured out option b) above, I consider MY original problem solved.
Yes, I agree that the bigger issue of HP's failure to address the problem of the usability of the Combo port on the HP Mini series has NOT been resolved. I would go further to say that the Technical helpdesk is of less worth than a chocolate Teapot! To explain my views, I woiud illustrate that:
a) it takes > two weeks after the automated response to get a reply.
b) the reply is more intent on closing the issue than resolving it.
c)  I have had no further contact from the woman in India since I took the trouble to provide her with ALL of the information related to this issue.
d) HP are still shipping this product with no Audio solution other than to buy a USB Audio device.
In summary, A nice product, let down by woeful support.

so...how much if I asked you to make me one of those and ship it to me in NC? lol  I want my mic to work on my headseat and am not mechanically inclined.

Parts required are:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-4-Pole-Jack-Plug-/280571295057?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_PowerAdaptors_S...

and

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/0-2M-3-5mm-Jack-Headphone-Splitter-Cable-Lead-Adapter-/280517813792?pt=UK_CE_M...

and a Soldering Iron and Solder. The rest is time and the will to do it! :smileytongue::smileyindifferent:

Now, if HP wanted them in quantities of 1000 pieces, I am sure that I could source them in Hong Kong for under $3 (cost).

Hey, why not just take a dive into google and hit it with "Computer Headset Adapter to iPhone"

Then you'll find something like this...

instead of doing so much work on putting your own together from pieces...

That would indeed be a good solution, unfortunately, for a different problem!

What we need is a 4-Pole 3.5mm Jack Plug split into a 3-Pole 3.5mm Mic Socket and a 3-Pole 3.5mm Headphone Socket.

Your suggested device is a 3.5mm Socket split into Two 3-Pole 3.5mm Plugs

Not exactly a subtle difference. :TongueOut:

Robert, That adapter has been discussed earlier in this thread and I believe that the connections are not correct for the HP Mini 210.

The difference is that the Grounds need to be connected to the Ring2 terminal and NOT the Body of the 4-Pole Jack Plug. The Body is the Mic Terminal on the HP Mini 210.

Ahh, I  see..

I also have a HP laptop, Elitebook 2540p with this stupid 4-pole socket.

And I've tested my Iphone headset with this laptop, and that worked great, and since this adapter claim it is to be used with iphone they should be using the same connector configuration. So , for elitebook 2540p this should work.

I also found this one that where half the price:http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/71/Y-Adapter/

But can't be sure if that one has the correct connections..

Robert, This one looks promising. I say that because the "Body" contact on the 4-Pole plug is well recessed and insulated from accidental touch.

The only way to know for certain is to buy one and then check for continuity from the Body of the 3-Pole Sockets to the Ring2 of the 4-Pole Plug.

Please post your findings here for the benefit of other users. HP are unlikely to offer a solution.
