My maximum volume is not loud enough.

Please find my laptop details.

HP Pavilion DM-4

Windows 7

Initially when I bought the laptop the maximum volume was OK. But deteriorated day by day and now I can hardly hear the music or any sound even when the volume is set to maximum.

Hi,

One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

Thanks for the response. I did that. I can feel some improvement. But even now the maximum volume is not very loud. Will it be the problem with the audio driver?

Hi,

It may definetely be worth reinstalling the audio driver.

Can you post back with the following.

1.  The full Model No. and Part No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ).

2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

Hi,

Download the IDT driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50856.exe

When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation - when this has completed, restart the notebook - has this made any difference?

Sorry for getting back after a long time. I somehow figured out the problem. I can feel the full effect of Dolby Advanced Audio when I use a external speaker ir earphone to the earphone jack. The problem is with the internal speakers. Any advice on enhancing the audio from the speaker? Do I need to replace it?

Kindly help.

Bharath.

You MAY have bad internal speakers - the problem might manifest itself differently.  You would probably getting (or seeing) error messages.  You might see something in Control Panel --> Device Manager in your audio devices in the event of a hardware failure.  So... check for s/w first - it's a likely source and hopefully easier to fix (certainly cheaper).  Smiling.,

Found a Report on This:

There is a known issue with Windows 7 that allows applications to mute (semi-mute to low volume) the internal speakers even when it is not supposed to happen.  It is linked to a cool feature that is supposed to tone down the sound when you are using your PC to make a phone call.  Unfortunately, the feature can run amok and turn down the sound when it's not supposed to - and leave it that way!  The feature allows applications to grab the sound and Poof!  You are stuck with your ear shoved against the laptop to hear anything.

The accepted workaround for this issue is to set the "Communications" setting to "Do Nothing"

Right Click on your Sound icon in the TaskBar --> Playback Devices --> Communications

Click on "Do Nothing"

Click OK

This may work for you.

It will probably require at least one reboot of your system after you make the change.

In fact, I'd shut down the system (full shutdown to Off) and then reboot, rather than just a Restart...

Hope this helps!
