Hi @Ejboeckler91,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Boot Device Not Found" error with the code Hard Disk (3F0) typically indicates that your HP laptop cannot detect a bootable operating system on your hard drive. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check Boot Sequence
- Enter BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually Esc, F2, F10, or Del) repeatedly as the computer powers on.
- Verify Boot Order:
- Ensure that the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
- If not, adjust the boot order and save changes.
Run HP Diagnostics
- Access HP Diagnostics:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the Power button, and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Select System Diagnostics (F2).
- Run a Hard Drive Test:
- Perform both a Quick Test and an Extensive Test to check for hardware issues.
Reseat the Hard Drive
If the diagnostics show no issues but the problem persists:
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
- Remove the battery (if removable) and access the hard drive compartment.
- Carefully disconnect and reconnect the hard drive to ensure it is securely seated.
- Reassemble and power on the laptop.
Check for a Corrupt Operating System
- If the hard drive passes the test but the operating system is not detected, it might be corrupted.
- Use a bootable USB or DVD with a Windows installation media to:
- Boot into recovery mode.
- Attempt a system repair or reinstall the operating system.

Create a Bootable USB for Reinstallation
If the issue persists:
- Use another computer to create a bootable Windows USB drive using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
- Insert the USB into your HP laptop and boot from it:
- Restart the laptop and press Esc or F9 to access the boot menu.
- Select the USB drive to start the Windows installation process.
Replace the Hard Drive (If Necessary)
- If diagnostics reveal hard drive failure or the drive is not detected in the BIOS, you may need to replace it with a new one and reinstall the operating system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
