Hi @Ejboeckler91,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Boot Device Not Found" error with the code Hard Disk (3F0) typically indicates that your HP laptop cannot detect a bootable operating system on your hard drive. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Boot Sequence

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI Settings:
    • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually Esc, F2, F10, or Del) repeatedly as the computer powers on.
  2. Verify Boot Order:
    • Ensure that the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
    • If not, adjust the boot order and save changes.

Run HP Diagnostics

  1. Access HP Diagnostics:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Press the Power button, and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
    • Select System Diagnostics (F2).
  2. Run a Hard Drive Test:
    • Perform both a Quick Test and an Extensive Test to check for hardware issues.

Reseat the Hard Drive

If the diagnostics show no issues but the problem persists:

  1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
  2. Remove the battery (if removable) and access the hard drive compartment.
  3. Carefully disconnect and reconnect the hard drive to ensure it is securely seated.
  4. Reassemble and power on the laptop.

Check for a Corrupt Operating System

  • If the hard drive passes the test but the operating system is not detected, it might be corrupted.
  • Use a bootable USB or DVD with a Windows installation media to:
    • Boot into recovery mode.
    • Attempt a system repair or reinstall the operating system.

Create a Bootable USB for Reinstallation

If the issue persists:

  1. Use another computer to create a bootable Windows USB drive using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  2. Insert the USB into your HP laptop and boot from it:
    • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F9 to access the boot menu.
    • Select the USB drive to start the Windows installation process.

Replace the Hard Drive (If Necessary)

  • If diagnostics reveal hard drive failure or the drive is not detected in the BIOS, you may need to replace it with a new one and reinstall the operating system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
