Product: HP EliteBook 8460p
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Description of the problem:

1) push start button

2) just after CAPS LOCK starts flashing

3) black screen. Nothing happens

4) after 20" the fan turns on

This state is a dead lock. The only way to exit is by unplugging both battery and power supply.

This state happens randomly.

Recently degraded and I cannot boot anymore. 

At step "2" it is also possible to hear from the CD drive. The sequence does not change removing the CD player 

 

Question to HP support:

Is the BIOS broken? Is a repair possible? In that case, how?
