OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, so yesterday I tried to upgrade my SSD. I've done it before with all the security requirements but this time my laptop doesn't work at all. It doesn't show any sign of fans/LEDs or anything. I don't know what to do now since the warranty expired.

Hi @Lion221,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OMEN gaming laptop after attempting to upgrade your SSD. When a laptop doesn't show any signs of life after a hardware upgrade, it can be concerning, but there are several steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check the Power Source: Ensure that your laptop is properly connected to a power source. Sometimes, a drained battery or loose power cable can give the impression that the laptop is completely dead.
  • Inspect the SSD Installation: Carefully check the SSD installation to make sure it's properly seated in the M.2 slot. If it's not securely connected, the laptop might not boot.
  • Reset the CMOS: This step involves resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to their default values. To do this, you may need to locate and remove the CMOS battery on your laptop's motherboard, wait for a few seconds, and then reinsert it. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific laptop model.
  • Disconnect External Devices: If you had any external devices connected, such as USB drives or peripherals, disconnect them and try to power on the laptop.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: To perform a hard reset, unplug the laptop from the power source, remove the battery (if possible), and hold the power button down for about 15 seconds. Then, reconnect the battery and power source and try to turn it on.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Open the laptop's case again and double-check all connections, including the SSD, RAM, and any other components you may have touched during the upgrade.
  • Test with the Old SSD: If you still have your old SSD, try reinstalling it to see if the laptop powers on. This will help determine if the issue is related to the new SSD.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
