Hi @Adwiteeya,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Updating the BIOS on your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop can improve system stability, compatibility, and performance. Here's a detailed guide on how to safely update your BIOS, including whether you need a USB drive or if you can update directly:
1. Check Your Current BIOS Version
Before updating, you should know your current BIOS version to determine if an update is necessary:
- Restart Laptop: Restart your laptop and press the Esc key repeatedly as it boots to enter the Startup Menu.
- Enter BIOS/UEFI: Press F10 to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.:
- Check Information: Navigate to the System Information or Main tab to find the BIOS version.
2. Find the Latest BIOS Update
Visit HP Support Website:
- Go to HP Support: Visit HP’s Support Website.
- Search for Your Model: Enter your laptop model in the search bar and select it from the list.
Download BIOS Update:
- Locate BIOS Updates: Go to the Software and Drivers section for your model.
- Download BIOS: Download the latest BIOS update available.
3. Prepare for BIOS Update
- Save Files: Ensure all important files are backed up before performing a BIOS update.
- Use AC Power: Make sure your laptop is plugged into a reliable power source. A BIOS update should not be interrupted due to power loss.
- Exit Programs: Close all open applications and files.
4. Update BIOS Using HP Support Assistant
HP provides an easy method to update the BIOS through the HP Support Assistant:
- Launch Application: Open the HP Support Assistant from your Start menu.
- Run Check: Click on Check for Updates and Messages. If a BIOS update is available, it will be listed.
- Update BIOS: Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the BIOS update. The application will handle the process automatically.
5. Update BIOS Using a Downloaded File
If you prefer to update the BIOS manually or if HP Support Assistant is not available:
- Format USB Drive: Format a USB drive to FAT32.
- Copy BIOS Update: Copy the downloaded BIOS update file to the USB drive.
- Restart and Enter BIOS: Restart the laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup by pressing Esc and then F10.
- Locate Update Tool: In BIOS/UEFI, find the BIOS Update or Firmware Update tool. This is often under the Advanced tab or a similar section.
- Select Update File: Choose the BIOS update file from the USB drive and follow the instructions to begin the update.
- Apply Update: The BIOS update will be applied. The laptop will automatically reboot when the process is complete.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
