When I am using our HP Pavilion dv6, and I am moving from tab to tab or page to page, there is a weird clicking sound that is coming from underneath the machine.  It wasn't there when we first started using it.  We have only had it for about one month, maybe.  Anyone else?

EnJsMa,

Windows is probably playing a sound that annoys you. So, we can try to find the sound and kill it.

Turn your speakers back on.

Go into Control Panel and click on Sound.
Then click on the "Sounds" tab.
Scroll down to the "Windows Explorer" tab.
Then find the "Start Navigation" line and highlight it.
Click the "test" button and try to determine if this is the sound you're hearing. I'm guessing it is.:smileyhappy:
If you want to kill the sound, go to the drop down menu that is to the left of the test button and scroll all the way to the top and select "None".

Hope this works ...

Hi,

Tap away at f10 as you start your PC to enter your system bios.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Let the test complete and post back with any errors that may be reported.

Regards,

Well, I did what you suggested and waited for an hour and a half while it ran it's diagnostic tests on the hard disk, and it came up with nothing.  It's the weirdest, most irritating thing.  It clicks whenever I change pages or click within pages.  It really makes this laptop sound cheap.  I was so in love with this thing, too!  Ugh.  Anymore ideas?

EnJsMa,

Mute your speakers.  Is the strange sound still there?

Marty H,

No, it isn't there when I mute the speakers....Hmmm.  Can you tell me what that means, without getting too techie on me?  I obviously know that I don't want to hear that sound, but having it on mute all the time isn't a good option for me....

EnJsMa (Very appreciative at this point already!)

Well, Marty H, you officially rock!  I did what you said and it totally was the noise!  Thank you for helping me to love this new toy of mine again!

I aready have my Windows Sound Scheme on (No Sounds). I have checked the System Notification again anyway, I did not do any changes to it and, I cant hear that weird clicking noise. I have just tested to play a video on youtube now, using my headphones, and I can head that clicking noise again, before it used to happen randomlly now, when I play a video or, something with sound. It seems to be coming from both the laptops speakers and, using when using headphones, in windows 8 and 10. Also, before and after uninstalling beats audio. I have also disabled all the microphones in the Recording section in Sound. Fix?
