HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop PC 13t-aw200 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Of course 19 days after the warranty expires my laptop dies, and I mean died.  The laptop said low battery and then shut off.  I plugged it in the next day and nothing since.  The orange light is lit indicating the battery is charging, but I cannot get it to boot or post or beep.  Pressing the power button does NOTHING.

I had to order star screw drivers to get it open and finally did.  I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in, nothing.

I plugged in the battery and plugged in the wall power, nothing

I left the battery unplugged and plugged in the wall power, nothing

I have held the power button in for 30 seconds with the battery plugged in, unplugged, and fingers crossed.... nothing

The battery is 96-116 dollars with no returns.  I am not sure if it is the battery, as I feel like the laptop should probably start up with no battery and with wall power only.  but again nothing.

Any suggestions?  My wife has a sprectre as well and we replaced her battery, but that battery is 11.55V not 15.4V so i didnt try it.

I also noticed that the orange charge light does turn white when there is no battery plugged in.  I believe this means that the charging port is good.

I could really use some help on this issue.  Please offer some help!  I feel like my 13 month spectre should last a little longer than that.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Spectre Laptop PC not booting to windows just goes to a black screen.

The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation from a failed BIOS upgrade, or damage from a virus.

Recover the BIOS using a key press combination.

Turn off the computer. Press and hold the Windows + b keys, and continue to press those keys while you press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds. Release the power button, but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.

The power light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything is displayed. You might hear a series of beeps (usually 8 beeps). Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen is displayed and the BIOS update begins automatically.

NOTE: If the HP BIOS Update screen is not displayed, press and release the power button, and then immediately press the Windows + b keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the HP BIOS Update screen.

After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button is displayed and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately, or wait for the computer to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

If issue still persist then run diagnostics to rule out other hard drive issues

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select Component Tests > Hard Drive > Quick Test.
  4. Click Run Once.

Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.

If the drive passes all tests, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for a response.

I would love to boot into bios, but as I described the laptop does nothing.  Pressing the power button does not light up the power button, does not light up the keyboard, does not light up the screen, does not turn a fan.  I cannot get into bios if the laptop does not power up.

I have used 2 different power usb-c cables that came with HP Spectre.  The only indication that the laptop is electronic is when plugging in the power.  The charging light is white when the power cord is plugged in without a battery plugged in and orange if the battery is plugged in.

Please help me get past a no power boot so that i may get to the bios and do your steps

Update.  I left the laptop plugged in.  The orange light went from orange to white.  This should mean that the laptop battery is working, that the charging port is working, and that the power supply is working.
