Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I try to use two external monitor on my HP-Laptop.

(HP Laptop | 17,3" HD+ Display | AMD Ryzen 5-5500U | 8GB DDR4 RAM | 512GB SSD | AMD Grafik;

Model ‎Number 4Y2B7EA)

The first external screen, which is connected to the HDMI-output is working properly.

How can I get a second external screen to work?

I bought a USB-C  Hub, but it looks like the USB-C on the laptop is not transmitting video signals.

Has anyone an idea how I can use 2 external screens on my laptop?

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi @Tomkast,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect two external monitors to your HP Laptop, there are a few possible solutions. Based on the details you provided, here's what you can try.

Check USB-C Video Support:

  • Not all USB-C ports support video output. To confirm if your laptop's USB-C port supports video (DisplayPort or Thunderbolt), check the laptop's manual or the specifications page.
  • If the USB-C port supports video, you should be able to use a USB-C to HDMI adapter or a USB-C hub with video output to connect the second monitor.

Use DisplayPort (if supported):

  • If your laptop has a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort, you can use a USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI adapter to connect the second monitor.

Use an External USB-to-HDMI Adapter:

  • If the USB-C port doesn't support video, you can use a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter. This adapter connects to a USB port on the laptop and provides an HDMI output for the second monitor.

Check Windows Display Settings:

  • After connecting the second monitor, make sure Windows recognizes it. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings. Under the "Multiple displays" section, you should see options to extend or duplicate the display.

Check Graphics Driver:

  • Ensure your graphics driver is up to date. Go to the Device Manager > Display adapters and right-click to update the driver if needed.

Use an HDMI Splitter (if applicable):

  • As an alternative (though not always ideal for high-resolution displays), you could use an HDMI splitter to duplicate the HDMI signal to both monitors. However, this is often limited to mirroring the display, not extending it.

If the USB-C port on your laptop doesn't support video output, I recommend going with a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter for the second external monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
