HP Notebook 15-dy1078nr

Hi.

I'm a little perplexed.

My laptop came with 8GB of RAM installed, in one slot. I believe there is an additional empty slot.

I want to add or upgrade my RAM.

My research shows conflicting answers- to me anyway.

A max of 16GB and 32GM.

Any idea(s) what I should go with?

If I am limited to just 8GB more, is this a compatible option?

"Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT8G4SFRA32A"

Thanks and have a great day!

Alan W.

Hi @RFTMFJ

supports 32 Gb of ram DDR4-2666. of 1.2 volts. You can put DDR4-3200 but the memory BUS decreases the frequency to 2666 which is what the processor supports.

Hi and thank you for your fast reply. I trust your advice. I'm just curious as to the discrepancy. Will the additional RAM over the 16GB be used essentially or is it excessive? Thanks again for your help, I sincerely appreciate it.

having 16 GB is a good amount of ram, many applications go very well with that amount of RAM. 32 GB is usually used when you have video editing programs.

Hi again and thanks for your continued help and explanation.

So if I follow correctly, I can add another 8GB RAM which will give me 16GB total? (The one that I add can be a different brand than the existing, original one- but has to be the same specifications that you indicated.)

If I want to go to 32GB I will have to remove the existing 8GB and replace with 2 x 16GB?

Exactly, you can put another one of 8 Gb of another brand and have in total 16 GB (2x8), you only must have, that the frequency must be 2666 or superior. If you want to put 32 GB you must remove the 8 GB and put two 16 GB (2x16).

I don't do video editing. Would I notice any difference between 16GB and 32GB as a "casual computer user" that I am? I'm open to still upgrading to 32GB but perhaps 16GB is a better value for me at this time? Your thoughts please and thank you.

in my opinion 16 GB will be sufficient,
